Cathay Pacific Further Expands Latin America Connections
with New Mexicana Code-Share Service

Cathay Pacific Airways and its oneworld partner Mexicana Airlines have signed a code-share agreement that will provide passengers with better connections and greater convenience when travelling between Hong Kong and two major cities in Mexico: Mexico City and Guadalajara. The new agreement comes into effect on 14 June 2010 and bookings for travel can be made immediately for travel from that date.

Under the code-share, Mexicana's flights from Mexico City and Guadalajara to Cathay Pacific's North American gateways in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Vancouver will carry the "CX" code, while Cathay Pacific's daily services from Hong Kong to the same gateways will carry Mexicana's "MX" code.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Tony Tyler said: "We are extremely pleased to be able to enter into closer cooperation with Mexicana, Mexico and Central America's leading airline and one of our valued oneworld partners. This new code-share service will further strengthen our coverage in Latin America and offer our passengers even more convenient access to this increasingly important region."

Grupo Mexicana CEO Manuel Borja said: "Mexicana appreciates this opportunity to strengthen its ties with Cathay Pacific, an airline recognised by industry experts worldwide. Today, thanks to this agreement, we are in a position to bring more passengers the products, services and hospitality we are renowned for. This type of initiative goes to prove once again that belonging to oneworld is advantageous for member airlines and even more so for passengers."

As both Cathay Pacific and Mexicana are members of the oneworld alliance, passengers travelling on each carrier can already earn and redeem frequent flyer rewards across each other's networks and gain access to partner airline lounges.

In May, Cathay Pacific announced a code-share with another oneworld partner, LAN, connecting its passengers to Santiago, the capital city of Chile. With the new arrangement with Mexicana, the Hong Kong carrier will offer code-share services with a total of seven of the alliance's 11 full members.
