2019年6月6日，中國電信獲得工業和信息化部頒發的“第五代數字蜂窩移動通信業務”經營許可。5G牌照的發放是落實網絡強國和5G引領發展戰略的重要里程碑，對於引領科技創新、實現產業升級、推動經濟高質量發展具有重要意義。
自2017年底開展5G試驗以來，中國電信聯合國內外眾多企業積極開展5G技術試驗和17個試點城市5G試驗網建設，取得了許多突破性成果。同時，中國電信與合作夥伴開展了豐富的5G應用創新實踐，目前已涵蓋政務、製造、交通、物流、教育、醫療、媒體、旅遊、環保等垂直行業重點應用場景，聯合試驗客戶已超過200家。
獲得5G牌照後，中國電信將繼續踐行“創新、協調、綠色、開放、共享”的發展理念，以高質量發展為目標開展5G網絡建設，積極探索和推進5G網絡共建共享，降低網絡建設和運維成本，確保優質的網絡質量和豐富的應用服務，秉持開放合作的態度，與國內外企業一同參與5G網絡建設、業務創新和應用研發推廣，共促產業繁榮，共享發展成果。
