Court Injunction for Cheung Kong Centre Applied

(Hong Kong, 25 April 2013) Turbo Top Limited, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited and the owner of Cheung Kong Centre, applied to the Court for an injunction against Lee Cheuk-yan, the General Secretary of Confederation of Trade Unions, and several union members to prevent the trespassing, obstruction and occupation of Cheung Kong Centre and the surrounding areas owned by it. The Judge has set to hear arguments from all parties with regards to the injunction application next Friday. In the meantime, the Judge has indicated he would agree that the demonstrators be restrained from unlawful entry into Cheung Kong Centre. The documents are currently being processed.

Hutchison Whampoa spokesperson explained that Hutchison Whampoa has always respected the freedom of speech and the peaceful expression of ideas. Regretfully, while the protesters have maintained their intentions were peaceful, their actions are not. The storming of the offices of Cheung Kong Holdings yesterday is an example of the intolerable nuisance and disruption caused to the tenants of Cheung Kong Centre.

Further, Stanley Ho Wai-hong, Secretary General of the Union of Hong Kong Dockers announced yesterday that the workers may become emotionally uncontrollable and their actions may further escalate. Hutchison Whampoa spokesperson considers these statements threatening.

Over the last few weeks, the Group has already extended tremendous patience and latitude for the protesters. However, given the recent developments, the Group considers it necessary to apply for an injunction.
