Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal Officially Unveiled at Opening Ceremony

The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal was officially unveiled by Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL) at an opening ceremony at the Hong Kong International Airport.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive John Slosar officiated the event, with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region the Honourable Leung Chun-ying as the guest of honour.

The opening ceremony was also attended by other special guests from the government, representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, management of the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the Civil Aviation Department, business partners, as well as friends from the air freight industry.

Mr Slosar said: "Cathay Pacific has worked tirelessly to develop the Hong Kong hub for both passengers and air cargo, and we continue to make huge investments in the terminal and in new aircraft to boost our city's competitive edge. The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is one of the world's biggest, and also the most sophisticated, and will help sustain Hong Kong's position as a preferred air cargo hub in the region. We believe the combination of the new terminal, our growing fleet, and the professionalism of Hong Kong's logistics community provides a flexible and dynamic logistical solution for Hong Kong's air freight industry. This is very important given the growing competition from other hubs around the region."

CPSL Chief Executive Officer Algernon Yau said: "Efficiency and reliability have always been the cornerstones of the air freight industry. Combined with advanced technology and a dynamic team, the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is established with simplicity and flexibility in mind to meet the increasing demands of customers. It is our ultimate goal to provide outstanding service to all our customers."

CPSL launched the services of this HK$5.9 billion facility in phases starting February 2013, ensuring a smooth transition for customers. The terminal moved successfully to full operation in October 2013, providing a broad spectrum of logistical solutions for the air freight industry.

The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal combines advanced technology with streamlined work flows to set new service benchmarks for the industry.

Customers benefit from extended cut-off times, last-minute cargo acceptance and reduced connection times for transhipments.

This is a common air cargo facility serving all airlines operating at the Hong Kong International Airport.

The new terminal has an annual handling capacity of 2.6 million tonnes and will help boost the competitiveness of the Hong Kong hub. Around 1,800 jobs have been created to support the operation.
