Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) Wins Excellence in Manpower Training and Development
Award at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) Ceremony Held During
Singapore Maritime Week 2017.

Singapore, 26 April 2017 - Marine services conglomerate Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) clinched the Excellence in Manpower Training and Development award at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) ceremony held on Tuesday, 25 April 2017 at Shangri-La Singapore.

SPO was selected as the winner of the Excellence in Manpower Training and Development award by an independent judging panel chaired by Chairman of MPA, Niam Chiam Meng and other maritime leaders. SPO was also one of the companies to be presented the certificate for the Maritime Sector Incentive-Approved International Shipping Enterprise (MSI-AIS) status which is accorded to Singapore-based companies for their good track record, demonstrable business plan and long term commitment to expand their operations in Singapore. SPO's Safety and Marine Assurance Director, Ian Offland received both awards from Guest-of-Honour, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Transport, Mrs Josephine Teo.

"SPO is honoured to win the Excellence in Manpower Training and Development award. Despite the unprecedented challenges faced during this downturn, our commitment to train and develop our people remains steadfast. We believe that ongoing investment in our people will ensure that our seafarers and shore-based employees continue to be amongst the best in the industry, thereby enabling us to provide safe, reliable and high quality services to our clients," says Managing Director of SPO, Ron Mathison.

"I would like to thank the distinguished panel of judges for this award who recognizes our commitment to training and development for both seagoing and shore-based employees. I would also like to thank the trainers at Swire Marine Training Centre (SMTC) for their unwavering commitment to delivering Excellence in Marine Services. The SMTC is also providing maritime training for other industry players," he adds.

This is the first time that SPO has won this award. In 2015, SPO won the SRS Shipowner of the Year award. The IMA ceremony was organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) as one of the anchor events of this year's Singapore Maritime Week (23 - 28 April 2017). The biennial ceremony seeks to give recognition to individuals and companies for their exemplary contributions to Singapore's development as a premier global hub port and an international maritime centre.

SPO moved its head office from Hong Kong to Singapore in 1992 and has been an active player in the Singapore maritime community. In support of MPA's outreach efforts to encourage students to pursue maritime careers, SPO hosted a group of over 80 students from Institute of Technical Education (ITE) at its flagship training centre.

SPO is a fully owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited. Since its inception in 1975, the company has expanded beyond conventional anchor-handling and platform supply operations to include a wide range of marine services including salvage, seismic survey, oil spill response, windfarm installation, decommissioning and Subsea/ROV support. Today, SPO owns and operates a diverse fleet of more than 75 offshore support vessels with 28 offices across six continents and is well-equipped to provide reliable and high quality marine services globally.
